The Detroit Lions (11-1) are back home in Week 14, hosting division rival Green Bay Packers (9-3) on “Thursday Night Football.”
With back-to-back Thursday games, the Lions' practice schedule is once again altered from traditional weeks. With a few extra days off following Thanksgiving, the Lions were back to work on Sunday, holding a walkthrough, which has become the standard way to start the week. On Monday, the Lions held a regular practice, in an effort to get things back to their normal pace as quickly as possible.
Let’s take a look at Monday’s injury report and get you up to date with what we know. Note that any changes from last week’s report will be bolded.
Injured reserve/return
- WR Kalif Raymond (hamstring) — injured reserve, eligible to return in Week 17
- DL John Cominsky (MCL) — injured reserve, could return in the playoffs
- LB Alex Anzalone (forearm) — injured reserve, could return late season or playoffs
- LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin (neck) — injured reserve, eligible to return at any time
- CB Ennis Rakestraw (hamstring) — injured reserve, eligible to return in Week 16
- S Ifeatu Melifonwu (finger) — injured reserve, eligible to return in Week 16
The Lions added Raymond to injured reserve ahead of their game against the Bears and he will be eligible to return to practice/game action in Week 17 if healthy. The positive news is that he is expected to be able to return before the regular season ends.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that Reeves-Maybin is now eligible to return to practice once healthy.
The Lions also added linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo to injured reserve following knee injuries in the Lions' most recent game, but they won’t be listed in this section, as both players will not be able to return this season.
No practice
- LT Taylor Decker (knee) — Missed Week 13
- DL Josh Paschal (knee) — Injured in Week 13
- DL Levi Onwuzurike (hamstring) — Injured in Week 13
- DT DJ Reader (shoulder) — New injury
After initially being optimistic that he might play on Thanksgiving, Decker was still unable to practice the following Monday. While starting the week by not practicing is far from ideal, there’s still a chance he could rebound in time to play, as Lions coach Dan Campbell noted on Sunday.
“(He’s doing) better and better. You know, I still think he’s day-to-day,” Campbell said. “I think it’ll come down to the wire with him whether he can go or not this week. It’s certainly better.”
If Campbell can’t go, it’ll likely be Dan Skipper filling a starting role again.
Paschal and Onwuzurike were both injured in the first half of the Lions' game against the Bears and while they could both miss this game, Campbell didn’t shut the door on a possible return.
“Paschal, it’s hard to say. Really, he and Levi are day-to-day,” Campbell said on Saturday. “I think Paschal’s got a better shot (to play) than Levi, but I don’t know. I’m not real optimistic about either one of them playing, but I guess Paschal’s got a better shot.”
Reader shows up with an unanticipated shoulder injury on Monday. Because this injury was not previously known about, Campbell has yet to be asked about it, therefore there’s no solid news on it for now. We will have to wait until Tuesday to get any further updates.
Limited practice
- CB Carlton Davis (hand, knee) — Missed Week 13, returned to practice
After being injured against the Colts and missing the Lions' game against the Bears, Davis was able to return to the practice field this week, In his absence the Lions have rotated Kindle Vildor and Khalil Dorsey in the starting role, but if Davis is able to play this week, he could give the Lions secondary a huge boost.
Full practice
- CB Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring) — Missed Week 13, returned to practice
Moseley tweaked an injury during warmups on Thanksgiving and the Lions didn't want to risk making it worse and made him inactive. That appears to be the right decision, as he was back on the practice field on Monday and is expected to be able to return to game action this week.
“I think he’s going to be good to go,” Campbell said of Moseley.
No longer listed on the injury report
- RB David Montgomery (shoulder)
- WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (knee)
- CB Terrion Arnold (groin)
The players listed in this section are no longer listed on the injury report.
Montgomery and St. Brown were injured against the Colts, and while the Lions took it slow with them leading up to Thanksgiving, they both played a full complement of snaps and appeared to escape the game without further issue. Arnold didn’t start against the Bears but they quickly ascertained he did not require any restrictions and he played the rest of the game. All three should be good to go against the Packers this Thursday.
