Deep thoughts by mic2000...Jared Goff has added to his game thanks to Hendon Hooker.

I know what many of you are thinking, what the f...? Hendon Hooker, an inexperienced backup make a vet of nearly a decade better? Yes, it's true. The evidence is this, Goff has shown an increasing usage of his physical gifts especially since Hooker became an active player. Just last season Goff tripped and fumbled the ball trying to flee the pass rush. The fact is he has been a pure pocket passer showing little interest in running. It is true he had a designed run for a TD but almost every improvised run last season, and there weren't many, lead to nothing or a disaster. This season for the first time Goff has a backup who can play and challenge him. Hooker, it has been reported has been a resource for Goff, much like Sudfeld was. Since he won the Detroit Lions' No. 2 quarterback job it was reported in the sidelion report this...

That said, we do know that backup quarterbacks are important during a week of preparation for a game. They are also another set of eyes for the starting quarterback during a game. Starting with how Goff turned to him to brainstorm answers about the Cover 0 looks the Los Angeles Rams might have in the season opener, Hooker noted that unseen work.

"Just refreshers of things that we might have had last year that might have slipped his mind," Hooker said Friday, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "I was here and grasped the offense pretty well and just remind him of things. Anyway that I can help Jared, I do, whether that’s us watching film and just talking ball or us on the sideline telling him what I see in a game."

Hooker is a student of the game and knows the playbook well but he has also either directly or indirectly inspiring/pushing Goff. Goff in the Bear game threw a genuine deep pass. I dont remember another time when he has widened his stance for power and used all his arm strength to throw a deep pass the way he did against the Bears. Goff generally does a quick set and throws quickly, he has an aversion to standing in the pocket at least since he's been with the Lions. This season, something has changed. Add that deep shot with Goff's increasing mobility in and around the pocket, his increasing use of roll outs and more runs and it adds up to Hooker having an influence.

Ben is coaching Hooker and Goff, Dan said Hooker is being vigorously trained in case he needs to play, I believe that coaching Hooker has inspired Ben to draw up different plays that include mobility and given real competition to Goff. The best way to motivate any player is bring in competition for his spot and Goff is reacting. Frankly I believe Hooker is prepping to take the job and he is well known to be a hard worker and a dude that knows his playbook, I also think he is trying to be the best teammate to Goff, if he can make Goff better he will and Goff is helping Hooker in kind. I think they're competing with another, yes Goff is the clear starter but if you put two competitive QBs together there will be competition and that's also Dan's way. He said he wants competition at every spot some time ago.

Jaylen Daniel is a great young player, as good as CJ Stroud was last year I like Daniels better. Daniel is a better runner, a better deep ball passer but is equal in managing an offense. I saw him play about 4 games into the season and knew this kid was special. I am an amateur QB scout and he just knew what he was doing early on. In fact he plays almost the same way Hooker does. They both are student of the game, throw brilliant deep balls and have similar athletic ability and play styles. He just beat the Eagles despite throwing 5 picks and I believe ESNP reported he was responsible for 88% of the Washington offense. This is from memory so sue me if I'm wrong.

Another QB that fascinates me is Michael Penix. He started his first game and won in part thanks to the defense. My guess is he will be one of the great ones. Before the college championship game the experts said he was a sure fire first pick. After he took a beating against Michigan some had him going as late as the third round. Me, I watched him take a beating, Michigan darn near killed him but he never complained or left the game, an amazing display if character. I was thinking if he dropped to the second round we should grab him even though I love Hooker. Too much talent to let drop, Atlanta happily grabbed him though.

I didn't get Bo Nix but then I have little respect for Sean Payton, Nix in college threw a load if short passes but Payton seems to have coached it out of him.

I said it early in the year, the Vikes head coach is a great offensive mind. What he's done with Sam Darnold is genius. I would see what he does in the playoffs, if Darnold can notch a win they should sign him. They do have JJ McCarthy waiting but he can use a little seasoning especially after he recovers from a season ending injury. I like JJ quite a bit.

The Pats have a future great QB but do they have the right teacher?

The Lions should win the NFC, the path is pretty clear. It'd take some major league choking not to.

Lions QB Makes Sense for Titans this is another stupid let's trade a low pick for Hendon Hooker article...

If there is one thing clear about the Tennessee Titans right now, it is that they badly need to make a move for a legitimate starting quarterback.

Should they opt to go the trade route, they could target a quarterback who would not cost them an arm and a leg. Perhaps a younger backup quarterback from another team would make sense.

One potential option could be trading for Detroit Lions' backup quarterback Hendon Hooker.

At 26 years old, he could be a long-term franchise quarterback option if things pan out.

Hooker was originally selected by the Lions with the No. 68 overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He has played in three games in limited action this season, completing six of his nine pass attempts for 62 yards.

Bringing in Hooker would have no downside to it. The Titans would not feel pressure to play him like they would by bringing in a veteran option. Also, Hooker would be able to compete with Levis and the best man would win the job before the 2025 campaign.

Throughout his career, Hooker has shown off immense talent. In his draft class, some thought that he had top-tier potential to be an NFL starter down the road.

In five college seasons, including his last two with the Tennessee Volunteers, Hooker completed 67 percent of his passes for 8,974 yards, 80 touchdowns, and just 12 interceptions. He also picked up 2,083 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground.

Acquiring Hooker also would not be too expensive. Tennessee could likely flip a late pick in the middle rounds for him.

All of that being said, something has to change for the Titans. They can't afford to stand pat and hope that Levis will figure things out.

Trading for a piece like Hooker could be the move that motivates Levis, or Hooker himself could end up being the team's starter moving forward.

Let me explain why this is moron thinking, The Lions invested a 3rd round pick in Hooker. Brad Johnson is one of the best minds in all of football, h drafted him, then the Lions spent a year healing him up, then they spent a year teaching him the Lions offense and the Lions way and then only to flip him for a late pick. Brad drafted Hooker for a reason, one of which he was tired of having a weak QB room, and the Lions can use a backup who can play and is still on a cheap contract. Brad also has a history of not giving up on draft picks. Why would he give up on Hooker? The point is Hooker has value for the Lions as a backup and maybe future starter. My guess if Brad sold, it wouldn't be cheap. Me, you're not getting him for less than a first and I'm not sure then. These writers really dont think much, if they think Hooker could be a starter, wouldn't the Lions? If that's the case why would the Lions give him away for a middling pick.

Many of you think I talk out my butt but I am a student of the game. I have depth of football history, I have studied to some degree the QB position, roster quality and to a lesser degree coaches. I also did in depth research of Goff in LA, fascinating stuff. Dan is a gentler Bill Parcell's type who leaned heavily on Bill Bellichick while Dan leans heavily on Ben. You Goff fans have something to worry about if Ben leaves next season, it makes the competition between Goff and Hooker more even. It could get fun around Lion town next season.
